Guitar pickups

The twentieth century has made adjustments in all areas of human life. Music was no exception. The noise of the era also demanded louder sounding musical instruments. The sound of the guitar was originally amplified by microphones, but the first samples were extremely bulky, significantly distorting the sound and restricting the performer's movements. Guitars equipped with pickups began to be actively used already in the first half of the 30s of the last century. The first pickups were also far from ideal, they were oversized and distorted the sound. According to the principle of operation, pickups are divided into piezoelectric and electromagnetic. The first are most often found on guitars with nylon strings. The second are used with instruments that have metal strings.

Guitar pickups

All pickups can be divided into active and passive. The first have a pre-amplified sound, they supply a more powerful signal to the amplifier. Passive serves only as a transmission link between the string and the amplifier. Electromagnetic pickups are more common and come in two basic types. The first is a single, it has one coil. It gives a more accurate crisp sound, but also has a greater sensitivity to electromagnetic interference. Its signal level is lower than that of a humbucker. This type of pickup is equipped with two coils, and its strength is slightly more than double that of a single coil. The humbucker captures clear sound, but emphasizes it more when using effects.
