Philosophy of Design

The Clavinova design concept is based on how a musician feels when he or she sits down at a Clavinova piano. Unnecessary elements are removed from the pianist's field of vision to create a convincingly natural space that resembles the ambience of an acoustic piano. This is a testament to Yamaha's attention to musicians who practice on the Clavinova and play acoustic pianos - they can take the stage without tension or anxiety because everything feels natural, as it should.

Yamaha Smart Pianist

The Yamaha Smart Pianist* app gives you full, detailed control of your instrument from your smart device. This intuitive app lets you easily select the right timbre from a variety of instrument sounds and even switch between different virtual performance spaces and their acoustic environment (such as a concert hall or cathedral).

Even if you can't read sheet music, Stream Lights, used in conjunction with the interactive scores in the Smart Pianist app, will tell you which next keys to press to make your music practice even more enjoyable. There's even a Guide function that pauses the song until you press the correct keys.

The Clavinova CSP-275 digital piano also includes a large selection of preset songs, from well-known popular and classical tunes to practice exercises and etudes.

“Audio to Score” 

If you want to play a song but don't know where to start or what to do, just use the Audio to Score function included in the Yamaha Smart Pianist app. The software analyses MP3 and other song audio data and creates a chord sequence with over 50 accompaniment options to suit your playing level. All you have to do is follow the key highlighting. Add variety to your performance with an arsenal of timbres and automatic accompaniment styles.

GrandTouch-S™ keyboard with wooden keys

Yamaha's latest keyboard features a wide dynamic range and precise response to every nuance of touch, giving the pianist a wide range of tones from delicate to vibrant. The high-tech hammers reproduce the pleasing response felt when striking the strings, allowing for precise control of tone. White synthetic ivory keys and black synthetic ebony keys prevent slipping even during prolonged playing. Just like a real piano.

Mechanism with "Escapment" effect

This mechanism in the piano quickly moves the hammers away from the strings after striking them to prevent any effect on string vibration. This mechanism creates a light clicking sensation when the key is gently pressed. These keyboards have been adjusted to provide additional friction that balances key rehearsal and response without compromising performance.

Grand Expression Modeling

Grand Expression Modeling is a groundbreaking new technology that allows pianists to use their techniques to create limitless tonal variations unique to grand pianos. The interaction and play of the hammers, dampers and strings inside the piano respond to the smallest nuances of the pianist's touch, creating a limitless range of tonal expression. The ability to vary the intensity and speed of touch to produce different tones adds another dimension to the joy of musical expression. This allows you to vary the sound by playing the keys at different depths and speeds, even when using techniques such as trills or legato, or emphasising the main melody over accompaniment.

Yamaha CFX и Bösendorfer Imperial

The sounds of the Clavinova grand piano are recorded from several world-famous concert grand pianos. One of them is the CFX, Yamaha's finest concert grand piano. Another concert grand piano is the Imperial, the flagship model of Bösendorfer, the centuries-old Viennese piano brand. Imperial is known for its abundance of colour and natural warmth.

Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) 

VRM's virtual resonance modelling creates a richly varied sound, simulating the complex sympathetic tones produced when string vibrations propagate to the deck and other strings, according to the timing and intensity of keystrokes and pedalling. CSP-200 Series pianos, even reproduce the sounds produced by the dampeners as they rise from the strings, in addition to the resonance of the duplex scaling, strings, deck and body.

Binaural sampling and Stereophonic Optimizer

This technology is designed to create the full natural resonance of acoustic pianos in the Clavinova giving pianists a realistic feeling of playing the instrument. On the CSP-200 series pianos, binaural sampling has been used for the Bösendorfer Imperial as well as the Yamaha CFX. Yamaha provided high-resolution stereo sound with a specially designed dummy head, which was used for the recording.

Also developed the Stereophonic Optimizer function - to achieve the same effect for piano effects. It reproduces realistic headphone sound propagation almost as accurately as binaural sampling for piano timbres other than CFX and Imperial.

Two-way loudspeaker system

With its powerful amplifier and two-way speaker system, the CSP-275 sounds not only loud but also rich. Separate midrange and treble speakers produce clear and deep sound for a fully immersive music experience.

Bluetooth Audio wireless connection and Bluetooth MIDI support

You can play music through the CSP-200 Piano Audio System using a Bluetooth-enabled smart device. Enjoy playing along with your favourite songs from your smart device.

The convenient Bluetooth® MIDI wireless connection between your instrument and the Smart Pianist app (on your smart device) allows you to fully focus on playing and enjoying your music without worrying about cables.

Microphone connection

You can enjoy karaoke with songs saved on your Clavinova or downloaded tracks. The lyrics (English only) are displayed in the Smart Pianist app, and the words change colour as the song progresses, so you'll know exactly when to join in. Plug in a microphone and you can sing along with your own accompaniment. The built-in Vocal Harmony harmoniser creates complex-sounding harmonies to enrich your voice and can even adjust the pitch of your vocals!

Multi-track recording

The Clavinova Digital Piano's recording function lets you record your performance with a single touch, which is useful when you want to objectively evaluate your playing. You can also record up to 16 tracks for simultaneous playback, so you can individually record left and right hand parts, or add additional parts with different timbres. Recordings are in MIDI format and can also be recorded in the Smart Pianist app.

USB Type-C Connection

The CSP-275 comes with a USB cable (Type-C to Type-C), so users who have a smart device with a Type-C connector can conveniently connect the tool to their smart device with a single cable and without having to purchase additional adapters.
