Korg NAUTILUS-88

Korg NAUTILUS: A new era in music creation with endless possibilities

NAUTILUS is not just a synthesizer. It's a workstation that pushes the boundaries of what any instrument can do. With nine tone generators, rich sampling, audio recording, effects, and computing power, NAUTILUS lets you create the sound you can only imagine.

The most extensive sound collection

NAUTILUS features the largest sound library ever created by Korg. It has everything from acoustic piano to analog synthesizers to EDM sounds. NAUTILUS features the advanced SGX-2 piano sound generator, which delivers delicate expressiveness to capture all the nuances of an acoustic piano. The synthesizer also features the largest piano library ever combined in a single product, with 12-step velocity switching, string resonance, and many other features. The EP-1 Electric Piano Sound Generator realistically reproduces seven different famous electric piano sounds. You can choose from the bright and lush sound of a Wurlitzer electric piano to the mellow and bluesy sound of a Rhodes electric piano.

Collection of NAUTILUS sounds and presets

The CX-3 module recreates the crisp sound of classic tonearm organs. You can choose from the bright and powerful sound of a Hammond organ to the soft and atmospheric sound of a Vox organ. Add to this the VPM/FM synthesis of the MOD-7, PolysixEX and MS-20EX for analog modeling, and the STR-1 for physical modeling, and you have the power to create any type of sound. When you use these modules together in programmable or combined mode, you have the scope to generate a multitude of tones.

NAUTILUS not only offers a huge collection of traditional sounds, but also contains a unique collection of new sounds that you won't find anywhere else. These sounds include:

  • Unique sounds: presets and samples of rare musical instruments, special pianos, new percussion, and more.
  • Current sounds: fresh presets that go well with the current music scene.
  • Standard sounds: all the most important sounds you need on your workstation.

Workflow

NAUTILUS has a simple and accessible workflow that allows you to create music quickly and easily.

A characteristic feature of NAUTILUS is its intuitive user interface. Thanks to its well-thought-out design and clear indications, NAUTILUS is easy to learn even for beginners.

One of the indispensable features of NAUTILUS is the DYNAMICS knob. With this knob, you can instantly control volume and tone changes in response to how hard you press a key. As you turn the DYNAMICS knob to the left, the keyboard responds more gently to your playing, giving you a wider range of dynamics. This allows for delicate, expressive playing that is ideal for piano solos or vocals. Turning the knob to the right gives you a stronger, flatter, more dynamic response. This allows you to achieve an even sound when playing in a group or ensemble.

The six Realtime knobs on the top left of the panel give you direct control over the changes to the PROG and COMBI sounds. Each knob is assigned a variety of functions, such as filter cutoff and effect depth, gate time, tempo and arpeggiator or drum track swing, snare type, and more. This allows you to quickly and easily change the sound of your music without interrupting your playing.

Four arpeggio pattern and drum set scenes are perfectly matched to each of the PROG and COMBI preset sounds. This allows you to create professional sounds quickly and easily.

The MODE button allows you to quickly switch between different modes such as PROG, COMBI, SET LIST, SAMPLE, etc. This makes NAUTILUS very easy to use, even if you don't know what you're looking for. Six shortcut buttons can be customized to access your favorite functions. This makes NAUTILUS even more convenient to use. Four templates can also be used to create your own sets of shortcuts. This allows you to customize NAUTILUS to suit your needs.

NAUTILUS has an open sample system that allows you to quickly sample an external sound source. This means you can use any sound you can find to create your own unique sound. Samples in AIFF, WAV, SoundFont 2.0, and AKAI S1000/3000 formats can be loaded into memory via a USB flash drive. You can also use the USB Ethernet adapter to transfer large amounts of data to a computer at high speed. You can also use this system to resample the sound of the NAUTILUS itself. This allows you to create new sounds that are impossible to obtain from any other instrument.

Korg NAUTILUS display

The 8-inch TouchView color touchscreen display makes NAUTILUS even more intuitive and easy to use. You can easily view parameters and edit sounds with a simple touch of your finger. The dark mode uses black as the primary color, which reduces eye fatigue. This is perfect for long hours of work.

NAUTILUS has a unique setlist mode that allows you to easily manage your performances. In this mode, the TouchView display shows 16 color-coded touch buttons. Each button can be assigned to trigger a preset, combination or sequence. This means that you can quickly and easily switch between different parts of your set without distracting from your performance.

And that's not all the benefits of NAUTILUS!

  1. NAUTILUS' 16-track MIDI sequencer makes it easy to capture your ideas, inspirations, and high-quality phrases. You can use the drum track or the RPPR (real-time pattern playback/recording) function to create the foundation for your compositions.
  2. The 16-track NAUTILUS audio recorder lets you record up to four tracks of 16-bit/24-bit uncompressed data at 48 kHz sampling rate. You can record your voice, instruments, or ambient sounds to add to your compositions.
  3. The 16 built-in NAUTILUS effects allow you to add an impressive sound to your audio creation. You can use effects to customize the sound of your instruments, create new sounds, or add atmosphere to your compositions.
  4. Each tone, each sequencer track, and each audio track has a separate three-band EQ. It's ideal for adjusting tonal balances or creatively modifying the overall sound.
  5. The USB/MIDI host ports allow you to connect external devices such as MIDI controllers, sound cards, and computers. You can use these devices to control the NAUTILUS or to record sound from the synthesizer to your computer.
  6. NAUTILUS's smooth sound transitions ensure that your performances are smooth and high-quality. When you switch between sounds, the effects that were applied to the previous sound are retained to ensure a smooth transition.
  7. Standalone and plug-in editing software: NAUTILUS comes with a standalone sound editor and a plug-in editor. You can use these programs to edit NAUTILUS sounds or to use it in your DAW as a software synthesizer.
  8. Free music software package: NAUTILUS comes with a variety of music software from Izotope, including Ozone Elements, Skoove, and software synthesizers from KORG and other brands.
