Prodipe STC-3D MK2 vs. Neumann TLM170
Tест PRODIPE STC-3D MK2 versus Neumann TLM 170 realized by the immense Michel-Yves Kochmann!
Mic 1: Prodipe STC-3D MK2
Mic 2: Neumann TLM 170
Test conditions:
- Strat Sire equipped with Heartbreaker microphones
- DeLuxe Reverb point-to-point amps assembled and modded by the excellent Geert Kuyken of NEL
- The two microphones positioned rigorously the same (one on each amp) in a Neve 4081 preamp
- In the 2 cases the low cut activated. I just adjusted the input gain so that the two levels are the same
Michel-Yves Kochman's opinion:
"Extremely close to one another. A micro a tad more low on the Neumann - a micro a tad more treble on the Prodipe (beautiful treble). In both cases nothing that can be corrected with an EQ in post. (the difference is tiny).
If we open the two right/left tracks at the same time the difference is undetectable. On a very personal level when I listen to the tracks (so "raw", without any correction) I prefer the Prodipe which seems to me to reflect more what I want to come out of my amps. When you think about the price difference (the Neumann is 10 times more expensive...) it's just amazing.."
