PRS Silver Sky (Frost)
PRS Silver Sky is the result of a close collaboration between Grammy Award-winning musician John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith (PRS). With over two and a half years of experience on the Silver Sky, this is a vintage styled instrument that is both familiar and new at the same time. Based on favorite elements from Mayer and Smith's 1963 and 1964 vintage instruments, this model is an idealized version of a vintage single-coil guitar. The attention that has been paid to every detail sets this guitar apart from others.
Some of the most distinctive features include the neck, headstock, pegs, bridge, and pickups and electronics. The headstock shape is based on PRS' signature design, but reversed to match Mayer's playing style. The bolt-on Silver Sky neck is modeled after John Mayer's favorite vintage instruments. It features 22 frets and a 25.5" neck length with a 7.25" radius. Like the tuners, the steel tremolo has a classic design and includes a PRS tremolo arm and Gen III knife edge screws.
If you're a connoisseur of single-coil pickups, you'll love the PRS Silver Sky. The sound of the 635JM single-coil pickups is very round and full, with a musical high that is never ice-cold or cheeky. The sonorous harmonics produced by these pickups are amazing. And when you put them in front of a tube amp, you get a great growl with superb note definition. These pickups also have a few modern tricks up their sleeves: they exhibit a higher signal-to-noise ratio than vintage models, and their intermediate sounds are noise-canceling. In addition, their electronics have been fine-tuned to ensure excellent tone consistency from pickup to pickup.
Other high-quality features include a bone nut, a die-cast metal connector plate that is curved to allow easy plugging and unplugging of guitar cables, updated knobs, frets that are slightly smaller than on most PRS electric guitars, and a double-action PRS stem (accessible from the front of the neck for usability).
